Just call me Sister Gonzales

I believe I have officially graduated into “sister” status at church. Though that nomenclature is rarely used in this modern day and age, I believe the overall attributes are still the same. Back in my childhood we would refer to the older ladies at church, who were involved with many of the activities, by using either their first name or last name with sister preceding it. For example, Sister Donna, Sister Martinez, Sister Sara. I think I’ll begin pushing Sister Gonzales for myself.

The reason I bring this up is because we had a fabulous Ladies Christmas party at my church last night and I got to help bring it to fruition. We had a tremendous turn out. Almost forty ladies attended. That’s huge for our church in which regular Sunday attendance is between one hundred and one hundred and twenty people. Plus, it’s the dead of winter here in Wyoming and it gets dark at 4pm. For ladies to be out and about at 7pm is pretty remarkable, and what’s even greater is that everyone had such an amazing time together.

I like to think that the Apostle Paul would be rather proud of us as he says in Ephesians 4:15-16 ESV “…we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.”

Love and friendship, fellowship and unity were abundant at our party. You could feel the cheer in the air, it was such a fun night. We ate snacks, we did a fun craft, we sang Christmas songs, we played a silly game to exchange Christmas socks. It was just a genuine wholesome good time. And it was rich in love for one another. There were no cliques, there was no gossip, there was no judgment or envy, it was a classy example of how the church is supposed to act: in unity and in love. I am so in love with the ladies of my church. And I am so honored at the impeccable example they are setting for me and for others. And so, Sister Gonzales it will be from here on out. 😁
