Power in Prayer

I’ve prayed all my life. There were times in my life I prayed out of routine. There were seasons of my life where I prayed out of desperation. There were times when I prayed because I had no one else to talk to. And when I really think about what prayer means to me, it is exactly this: talking to God.

Prayer is first mentioned in the Bible in Genesis 4:26 ESV stating “To Seth also a son was born, and he called his name Enosh. At that time people began to call upon the name of the Lord” (emphasis added). You see, at this point in the Bible, Adam and Eve had sinned and were exiled from the Garden of Eden where they had previously walked with God and talked “in person” with him. Now that humans were no longer allowed in the Garden of Eden, prayer was the necessary way to speak with God.

Philippians 4:6-7 ESV explains, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Prayer is talking to God, and making requests of Him while understanding that He knows best. Through faith in our prayers, we put trust in Him to have His way with our requests, knowing it will be for good.

I want to encourage you with how serious God takes our prayer requests.

Our church has started a prayer group that meets once a week for about an hour. All we do is come together and pray for anyone that has a need. Since we started a couple months back, I’ve been overjoyed witnessing the power of God.

For example, we’ve been praying for a baby that had been born with a serious liver condition. It was so severe it was making the baby turn green and the doctors did not think she would make it. We prayed for healing and that little baby’s liver is functioning again and her color has returned to normal. She is living! Praise God! We will continue to pray that she is completely healed and will lead a normal life.

We’ve been praying for a member’s granddaughter who was having stomach issues that for the longest time the doctors couldn’t figure out what was wrong. We asked God to intervene. Last week we were told that the granddaughter had made a complete 180 transformation and looked and felt better than she had in a long time. She finally found a doctor who made the correct diagnosis. We know it was God that put that doctor in her path.

I was recently prayed over in request of a good job that was in the will of God. Within two days a church member put me in contact with someone who could potentially help me with a job. God is so attentive.

I feel incredibly blessed to be a part of this prayer group. There are many more prayer requests that have been answered. Some have taken a long time; others have been quick. But what I hope encourages you most is that God is listening. He absolutely hears everything. Psalm 139:4 ESV states, “Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.”

What a good God we serve! No one can love us the way God loves us, it is truly life altering.

Never stop praying, God is with you always and hears your needs. “…What is impossible with man is possible with God.” Luke 18:27 ESV.

If you need prayer, please let me know and I will pray for you.

“So the last will be first, and the first last.” Matthew 20:16 ESV
