The Faithful Have Vanished
It’s hard to get a break from the news nowadays. It seems one has to physically escape into the true wilderness so as to not be bombarded by the utter insanity going on these days.
I don’t even have to turn on my phone anymore, it just lights up with a ping announcing another devastating story of corruption, greed, or violence.
I’ve heard more people talk about a potential world war 3 than at any other time in my life.
Where have all the righteous people gone?
Does no one stick to morals anymore? Has the urge to do the right thing vanished from our world? Have we given up on the idea that people can and will be good?
Perhaps it’s just that those bad things we hear about so often drown out the voices of the good. It’s easy to look at the bad when it’s being shouted in your face, but doing good is usually followed by being humble and so shouting is not their style.
It can be a little frustrating and disheartening when you are facing a world of so much bad.
But we aren’t alone when we feel this way. King David from the Bible felt this way too. His twelfth Psalm brings me some comfort and solidarity knowing I’m not the only one that has felt this way. And this particular Psalm is a great reminder that no matter how much we are faced with bad, we are safe in the Lord.
God will guard us against the madness of this world if we put our trust in Him. David tells us that though there is wickedness all around us, God will forever guard the poor and needy.
This Psalm has brought me comfort. Our world is full of corruption. It seems like the elite are forever “plundering” the little guys, the underdogs, the people who are just trying to do the right thing. But we can take comfort knowing that God will place us in safety, and guard us forever.
The light will always prevail against the darkness.
“So the last will be first, and the first last.” Matthew 20:16 ESV
